Blocking Your Quilt

The Durham-Orange Quilters Guild is preparing for it's upcoming quilt show with several demos at the meeting tonight on "Getting your Quilt Ready for the Show..." My assignment is Blocking your Quilt. So I've been busy researching methods for getting that quilt square and hanging straight. If you're interested in seeing my presentation, you can follow the link: Blocking Your Quilt

I've also got a summary handout for folks that attend the meeting tonight. If you didn't get one, you can print it out here: Blocking Your Quilt Handout

The Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival

Our guild took a bus trip to the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival last weekend. It's a long ride, but we had a splendid time! We saw some wonderful quilts with the most amazing and intricate work. It was an inspiring and tiring day...

Here's a picture of Judy's quilt "Words of the Season" hanging in the show with Judy and me posing beside it. We finally were able to get a picture of the entire quilt - a difficult task because the quilt is huge! Check out Judy's quilted jacket, too, she's quite a productive quilter.

Donation Quilts

We've been busily quilting up donation quilts for the Durham-Orange Quilters' Guild and the Carolina Longarm Association.

This first one is all about baseball:

The next one is a patriotic quilt. Note the Star Spangled Banner design in the quilting:

And here's a lovely soft pastel quilt fit for a lady!

We quilted this one with Abundant Feathers. The "cheater cloth" backing looks great too!

This pretty stack and slash quilted up nicely with Anne Bright's Wallpaper design:

This last one has candlewicking around all of the center designs. That's like little french knots tied in pearl cotton - a huge amount of work!

DOQ Makes the News!

The Durham-Orange Quilters' Guild is featured on the front page of the Chapel Hill News today! They held a donation quilt workshop on Saturday, January 12th, to make quilts for victims of Hurricane Sandy. Over 50 people attended and lots of quilts were made. Check out the online article at http://www.chapelhillnews.com/2013/01/19/74608/area-quilters-come-together-for.html
