More Fall Festival Fun!

More from the John C Campbell Folk School Fall Festival:

The Festival Barn was filled to the brim with vendors and their displays, and musicians and dancers with the audience sitting on hay bales. One booth I particularly likes was Charlie Patricolo's Dolls.
Charlie will be teaching a doll workshop this weekend at Thimble Pleasures in Chapel Hill. See her demo and workshop schedule below.

Be sure to scroll to the bottom to see a video clip of the Morris Dancers...

The Folk School has several groups of dancers that entertain at Festivals and other events. They even travel abroad to perform and compete in dance competitions! These are the Morris Dancers. The music is lively and the dancers are all decked out in rag clothes and funny hats. I think this is a stick dance. Super fun to watch. They remind me a bit of the Shriner's Clowns, but dance a lot better!

Morris dance is a form of English folk dance based on rhythmic stepping. The dancers usually wear bells on their shins and use sticks, swords, or handkerchiefs to swirl about. Wikipedia says there are about 150 Morris dance teams in the US and many more in the UK.
